Favorite Plant:
Oklahoma Redbud
Why It's My Favorite:
OKLAHOMA REDBUD - also know as Cercis canadensis var. texensis 'Oklahoma' is one of my favorite plants because of its year round interest. In early spring the small purple buds open to purple red flowers on bare branches. The effect is similar to having purple red Christmas lights on the tree. After flowering, the deep green and shiny heart shaped leaves provide a nice texture element to the garden. In fall time the leaves turn a nice yellow color. The Fact that the tree tolerates the heat and drought is an added plus!
