Favorite Plant:
Arbutus unedo 'Compacta'
Why It's My Favorite:
Here in the Puget Sound area, it blooms just in time to provide nectar for Hummingbirds who need to fatten up to survive the winter cold. Its fruit also feeds other wildlife, and is actually pretty tasty if you pick it at its peak of ripeness. This plant is also beautiful year-round, low-maintenance, a great screen, low-water-use once established, large enough to create a "statement" in the design, yet will not overwhelm an urban-size garden.
